Kid’s Monster Factory

July 8th, 2013

As a child I used to draw monsters and as an adult I continue to doodle monsters every chance I get. This is very special class designed for children 6 to 12 years old who along with an accompanying adult will use their imagination to draw a monster then turn that artwork into a fabulous papier mache sculpture.

During the first two hour session we will look at inspirational monsters in movies and books such as Monsters Inc., Where the Wild Things Are and the Dr. Suess books, then create a drawing and start constructing the sculpture. The second and third sessions will use papier mache and the final class will be painting.

The workshops can be physically demanding requiring participants to stand, kneel, lift and work in uncomfortable positions. Papier mache can be a bit messy so please dress accordingly. The class uses a variety of non-hazardous materials such as flour, glue and joint compound, as well as latex and acrylic paints.

Workshop cost is $100 per adult and child duo which includes all tools and materials.

You are encouraged to bring your own drink and snack. No alcoholic beverages please. Call (989) 750-6457 to register. Payment is due

STOLLOWEEN Studio Tour

July 8th, 2013

On April 17th, 2013 we moved into some new studio space at 718 George Street in Midland, MI.

The new workshop is not huge, around 900 sq. feet but it’s a huge improvement over working out of my basement, garage and dining room table.

Renting studio space serves two purposes.

First it gives me more room to build and a place to hold papier mache workshops.

And secondly, and most importantly it gets the majority of my Halloween stuff out of the house, a huge selling factor for my wife.

Basically this is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, my own little space dedicated to something I really enjoy.

If you ever find yourself in the Midland area please take a moment to stop in and check it out.

Looks Like More Pumpkins…..

August 2nd, 2011

This year I told myself I was not creating anymore papier mache pumpkins…none, nadda, zip, zero.

As always my plans change during the course of the year…need to be flexible.

First off I will be teaching a papier mache workshop in late September, four sessions teaching the techniques required to make a pumpkin from a trash bag and recycled materials.

I’m working on the course description and details but will tell you that the classes will be offered at Legacy Art Studio and Gallery in Midland, Michigan.

Legacy is a great place with a good vibe, check them out if you live in the Midland area, you can also check them out on Facebook.

The second reason I’m making more pumpkins is that I’ve had requests for more tortured pumpkins…so I’ve got about 20 in the works that will be offered in my Etsy Shop in a few weeks.

And finally I will be making two more pumpkins for the winners of the “Build Me A Pumpkin” contest held on my STOLLOWEEN Facebook page.

You can find the details on www.torturedpumpkins.com .

Plans change.

Stay tuned for information on the upcoming workshop.
